The Spanish biker José Luis Gómez Miranda (from the Team Tomás Belles Cannondale by Gaes)is the first leader of the Gaes Titan Desert by Garmin 2017. After the final sprint of the first stage of the race (105km between Maadid and the dunes of Erg Chebbi) with a time of 3h 58 minutes. It's been a hot day where the riders also had to face for the first time the Desert.
Gómez Miranda has been imposed in front of the Argentinean Ignacio Ariel Gili and the Colombian Diego Alejandro Tamayo. He also was followed by a group of 8bikers where Julen Zubero, Roberto Voy and Josep Betalu where in.
A total of 444 participants took the start Line in Maadid, all of them very excited and nervous for face the first stage of 105km. A big challenge to start with because the riders had also to go through the dunes and through the soft sand that made it very difficult to go on.
At the beginning, the 3 members of the team of Tomás Belles Cannondale by Gaes (Gomez Miranda, Ever Alejandro Gómez and Roberto Bou) were cycling in a small group also with Diego Tamayo and Francesc Freixer (from the Esteve KH-7 team). In the 70km they were cached by the rest of the favorites.
From then, a group of 8 participants were in the race after the final sprint where “Selu” Gomez Miranda, who also won a stage, last year in the Titan, was the winner of the first stage of this edition.
“It has been a very difficult stage, with the wind coming. At the end, only a 200meters of the finish line, I took advantage and I won. We are going to try to keep the leadership everyday and I'll try to keep it until the end”, said by Gomez Miranda very happy.
The winner in 2015, Anna Ramirez, from the team of Esteve KH-7 has got the first place with a time of 4h58minutes54seconds, right before Olga Anabel Echenique and the last winner, Ramona Gabriel, who had the 3rd position.
Te stage had given us unbelievable landscapes, especially at the finish line, in the camp of Belle Etoile, situated right in the dunes of Erg Chebbi.
The riders got ten hours to complete the stage, so they had been arriving exhausted because the difficulty of the stage and the hot temperatures of the desert.
The adventure is just beginning. Tomorrow the titans will live a new exciting stage, with so many dunes that they will have to pass through. 106km where the GPS will be essential for the bikers, if they want to go by the best areas of the desert.
