The Gaes Titan Desert by Garmin has presented today its official route for the twelfth edition of the race in an act celebrated in the concessionaire SEATCastellana Motor in Madrid. With a total of 612km and 455participants, the edition 2017 is characterized for being 100% desert and with multiple pass of dunes.
Returning to the origins, the 12th edition of the Gaes Titan Desert by Garmin will have more desert, sand and dunes than never.Situated exclusively in the province of Errachidia, The titans must face a total of 612 kilometers distributed in 6 very hard stages, with pass of dunes in the middle of them.
The 455 participants inscribed in the adventure, 12% more than last year, where we can find bikers of first level as Josep Betalú (winner 2016) Diego Alejandro Tamayo (winner 2015) and Ondrej Fojtik (winner 2014), must face the dessert in a few arid landscapes and with extreme heat. A total of 21 countries will be represented in this edition, with bikers coming from all over the world.
The first stage will have as departure the village of Maadid, and in a total of 105km it will arrive to the door of the dunes, to the Erg Chebbi, with more than 1.000 metresof accumulated unevenness. This will be day for a first contact with the desert that will finish in the same place where the first camp of the Titan was located, in 2006.
The second one of the stages will join the Erg Chebbi with Merzouga in 106km, and will have the longest pass of dunes of the entire race. From the exit of the dunes, where many of the bikers will have to take their bikeson the shoulders, the terrain changes completely in a more stony zone and even mountainous. This will be a very hard stage for all the titans.
The curl, with start and arrival in Merzouga, of the third journey of competition, will be the maximum expression of the adventure and navigation. It is the Garmin stage, where there will be a section without any type of signposting and titans must guide just with their GPS and their sense of orientation. This wi8ll be a journey of maximum difficulty with 103km and more than 1.000 meters of accumulated unevenness.
If the participants survive the navigation, on the fourth day of race they must start the Marathon Stage, so they must carry the whole material to face this stage and that of the following day. Moreover, they can’t dispose of mechanical assistance nor or physical therapy. This is a stage 100% desert with 104 km fromMerzougato Fezzou’s camp.
In Fezzouthe second part of the marathon stage will begin. This is a stage of an abysmal distance in kilometers. The Titans must compete during 143km in the stage 5, a hell when the forces are very little but the objective of being a finisher is nearby. The camp of El Jorf waits for the bikers before the last difficulty.
The sixth stage is practically a journey of “honoring” to those who still are on race.“Only 51km to enjoy the landscapes and to celebrate the opportunity to be a “finisher” of the Gaes Titan Desert by Garmin, the hardest MTB race of the world.
