Barcelona, December 22th, 2010 – The Milenio Titan Desert by Powerade, a tough mountain bike race held each year in the Moroccan desert, has completed all the available places for the next edition to be held from 9 to 14 May between Erfoud (Morocco) and Granada (Spain). More than 500 participants will take part in this new edition of the race. Roberto Heras, winner in 2008 and 2010, and Oscar Pereiro, winner of the Tour de France in 2006, will be the main contenders for the final title.
Despite organization plans to close registration for the 2011 edition of the Milenio Titan Desert by Powerade in late March, the organization has completed all the available places six months before the race starts. The desert race, now in its sixth edition, has turned into the biggest race in Southern Europe and one of the world's leading MTB Stage Marathon race.
The main developments in this new edition have attracted more MTB fans. The hardness increases with increasing stage mileage and the days of racing: from five stages in 2010 it grows to six stages in 2011 and from the 500km in 2010 to 600km in this new edition. Also it adds the lure of a stage in Spain for the first time, ending the last day of racing in the spectacular city of Granada.
In 2011 the race will have again familiar faces from the world of sports taking part in the race such as Roberto Heras, who after their successes in the world of road race, has now shifted his sports career to the world of mountain bike and had won this race twice, in 2008 and 2010. Oscar Pereiro is one of the biggest names in professional cycling who have confirmed his participation in the Milenio Titan Desert by Powerade 2011 edition, the winner of the Tour de France in 2006, will participate in the race of the desert as an ambassador for the bid to Tarragona to organize the 2017 Mediterranean Games.
Now a waiting list is opened for all interested riders who have lost their place. They can contact the organization via email info@titandesert.com or by phone at +34 902 363 175.
